1st for Freedom is a driver training business situated on the Suffolk, Cambridgeshire & Essex borders. Offering driver training to novices, part trained, those returning to driving after break, or those brushing up on their skills to aid getting a job or reassure an employer.
After a 28 year career in engineering I started 1st for Freedom. I served a formal apprenticeship and have trained others in engineering. My previous position, which I held for many years, was as the works manager in an engineering company in which I was a 25% shareholder. After careful consideration I felt that it was time for a fresh challenge..
A few years ago my own children started to learn to drive and I was heavily involved in that process. I thoroughly enjoyed assisting them with their personnel goal, while they still had a fully qualified ADI's teaching them. Driven by having one of the ADI's stating that my instruction to my younger child was very good and having upwards of 25 years driving experience in all manners driving conditions and situations, I pursued the appropriate training to fulfil my ambition.
I felt that having completed my own apprenticeship and assisted with the education of others in theirs, I could effectively communicate the "how's", "why's" and "because's" in many different ways, which are needed when training other individuals. Having upwards of 25 years driving experience, coupled with bundles of enthusiasm, seemed like an excellent foundation to build a driver training business on."
I strongly believe that for successful tuition to take place you require me to be not just patient but also friendly, approachable and calm as this will make the experience for you more fun, interactive and enjoyable. The syllabus I am teaching, although structured and methodical, is focused on remembering that it is you, an individual, who is being educated, and that I am not just teaching someone to pass a test but to give you the skills to be a safe driver for life. Why I started it
